Approach

Merchant payments and automated loan repayment

The challenge

  • A banking institution and mobile money ecosystem required a technology layer capable of connecting merchant lending with digital payment activity.

  • The requirement went beyond loan origination.

  • Once a merchant received financing, repayments needed to be coordinated with merchant transaction proceeds while correctly handling loan balances, deductions, refunds and loan-closure events.

  • This required banking and payment systems that were originally designed for different purposes to operate as part of a single lending journey.

The operating model

UNIPHI introduced an orchestration and middleware layer between the lender and payment ecosystem.

The platform coordinates loan information with merchant transaction activity and applies configured repayment rules to eligible payment proceeds.

Business events are exchanged between the banking environment, payment provider and lending platform without requiring either participant to replace its core systems.
